Romaine

Overview

Romaine is an elongated heading type of lettuce. There are several types and varieties, which vary in color and how tightly they close. In the industry, Romaine is often referred to as “self closing” or “loose closing” with loose closing referring to those types in which the leaves do not curl inward at the top to form a head.

U.S. Grades

The USDA provides for a U.S. No. 1 Grade Standard. There is no Canadian Grade Standard for Romaine
